Ambient Occlusion (AO) and Global Illumination (GI) are two crucial methods that support this realism.

Introduction to Global Illumination

A basic lighting approach called Global Illumination replicates how light interacts with real-world things in a digital setting.  In order to produce more lifelike virtual environments, global illumination (GI) enables light to bounce, refract, and diffuse across a scene. 

      • When light hits a surface, part of it is absorbed while the rest is reflected, illuminating nearby surfaces.
      • This process creates effects like color bleeding (where colors from one object reflect onto another) and soft shadows (caused by indirect lighting).

What's new in Ornatrix 3 for Cinema 4D?

In November 2024, Ephere has released Ornatrix 3 for Cinema 4D. It’s a powerful plugin for generating dynamic hair, fur and feathers. In this new update, we see Ephere add a new Graft Grooms system, new options to box grooming operators and bake modifiers, improvements in key features like Edit Guides, Guides from Guide Mesh, Clump, Surface Comb, Noise and Mesh from Strands.

What's new in Ornatrix 3 for Cinema 4D?

New Graft Grooms system

In Ornatrix 3 for Cinem 4D, Ephere introduces some new features that have released in the version for Maya. For example, now Cinema 4D users can experience Graft Grooms – a new type of preset designed to help you create entire grooms through a simple point-and-click workflow. You can drag across the surface of a character to draw a graft surface, from which Ornatrix generates the hair automatically.

You can choose to use presets for different hairstyles or to create own custom grafts, which can then be reused between projects or shared with other artists.

New options to box grooming operators and bake modifiers

In this new update, there is a ystem for ‘boxing’ Ornatrix operators, combining set of operators in a single Groom modifier. Operators combined in this way enable you to edit procedurally. And if you want to edit them individually, it can be unboxed again.

It is also now possible to bake modifiers, which caches their output, speeding up evaluation and reducing temporal artefacts, at the expense of absolute accuracy.

Other feature and performance improvements

Other key modifiers also got many updates, such as Edit Guides, Guides from Guide Mesh, Clump, Surface Comb, Noise and Mesh from Strands.

Performance has been improved by “up to 100x” in “various parts” of the app, although an improvement of “around 90%” when mirroring circular brushes seems more likely to be typical.

Ornatrix 3 for Cinema 4D is available for Cinema 4D R25+ on Windows 10+ and macOS 10.14+. A perpetual license costs $599; rental costs $50/month or $420/year.

Fixing Cinema 4D 2025 viewport blank or cannot use GPU with Redshift in Cinema 4D 2025

Maxon has released Cinema 4D and Redshift version 2025 for a while and they have been great, except some issues such as Cinema 4D 2025 viewport blank or you cannot use GPU with Redshift in Cinema 4D 2025. In this article, we will talk about that and check one fix from Maxon.

The issue

These issues like Cinema 4D viewpport blank or not being able to use GPU with Redshift in Cinema 4D only occur on the version of 2025, while version 2024 of Cinema 4D and Redshift work perfectly.

In the second issue where you cannot use GPU with Redshift in Cinema 4D, you can try navigating to your Redshift preferences and if you do not see your GPU listed under “Compute Devices”, it’s exactly the issue we are talking about.

How to choose a Cinema 4D license

Cinema 4D is a 3D software suite for animation, modeling, simulation, and rendering, created by the German company Maxon. It offers various license options tailored to different requirements. If you’re unsure which Cinema 4D license best suits your needs, let iRender assist you in making the right choice.

Step 1: Set your requirements

To choose a Cinema 4D license that is suitable for you, start by identifying your needs, usage frequency, and budget.  

First, know your demand. For educational purposes, ask yourself: Are you using the software to learn or teach? Will it be used during class or after?  For work purposes, determine if the software is used by you only or will be shared with your team.  

Next, consider how often you’ll use it—just a few days, a month, or several months.  

You’ll also need to ensure your PC meets the software’s system requirements, which vary depending on the version. For example, Cinema 4D 2025 requires Windows 10 or macOS 13.6+, an Intel or AMD 64-bit processor with AVX2 support, 16GB of RAM, and a compatible NVIDIA or AMD graphics card with DirectX 12 feature level 11.0 support.  

Finally, estimate your budget for the software. Since 3D modeling involves multiple steps, outline your total project budget and allocate costs to each phase to stay within limits.

1. Subscription License

This license offers monthly or annual payment options. It allows access on multiple devices, though only one can be active at a time. Activation is done by logging into your Maxon account, and the software requires an internet connection during use.

The cost on the Maxon website is €121.77 per month. For those with frequent project needs, opting for the annual payment of €859.77 (equivalent to €71.64 per month) can be more cost-effective. You should choose a Cinema 4D license like this subscription one if you’re a freelancer and your project requirements vary.

2. Perpetual License

A Cinema 4D perpetual license is a one-time purchase that provides users with the ability to use a specific version of the software indefinitely. With this type of license, you do not need an internet connection after the initial activation process is completed. However, it is important to note that the license only grants access to a particular version of Cinema 4D and does not include updates or upgrades to newer versions.

A perpetual license allows users to install the software on multiple devices, but it can only be actively used on one device at a time. Additionally, if you decide you no longer need the license, you can transfer it to another user. To do so, you must complete a transfer form and submit it to Maxon, which will charge a fee for processing the transfer.

While Maxon no longer offers perpetual licenses for their products directly through their website, existing perpetual licenses remain valid. New perpetual licenses can still be purchased through authorized resellers, but the pricing may vary depending on the reseller.

3. Team Floating License

This license allows multiple users within the same team to share access, provided they are not working simultaneously. The administrator is responsible for managing the distribution of licenses among team members. This setup makes the license an excellent option for studios and organizations with collaborative workflows.

By paying a minimum price of €170.97 per month or opting for an annual payment of €1204.7 (equivalent to €100.34 per month), your team will receive access to five team licenses (seats), enabling efficient resource sharing and cost management for group projects.

4. Educational License

If you are a student, teacher, or educational institution, you can choose a Cinema 4D license called an educational license. This provides access to a comprehensive bundle that includes Cinema 4D, Red Giant, Forger, ZBrush, and Redshift, all for a minimal administration fee.

To purchase this license, you must first create a Maxon account and submit an application form along with proof of your identity or eligibility. Once your application is approved, you will receive a 1-year license. This license can be renewed annually by reapplying and providing updated documentation.

The discounted price for a 1-year license varies based on your status: educational institutions pay €220.17, while teachers and students can access the license for €73.80 each.

5. Trial License

If you want to evaluate the software before making a payment, you can choose a Cinema 4D license for free. This license will be valid for 14 days, you can access a full-functional version of the software. Not only that, you can also try other Maxon products like Redshift, ZBrush.

Step 3: Find where to buy the license

After setting up the demand and looking through all types of licenses, you will decide whether to choose a Cinema 4D license from the official website of Maxon or its resellers. Purchasing from resellers can offer the advantage of lower prices; however, it’s essential to verify their legitimacy before proceeding with any payment. Additionally, some users sell their licenses online, and while this can be another option, it’s crucial to ensure that the seller is reliable and trustworthy.

How to work with Cinema 4D and Arnold on iRender remote machine?

Autodesk Arnold, although is not a common choice for Cinema 4D like Redshift and Octane, still manages to be one of the most versatile render engines and proves its advantages in handling sophisticated and demanding scenes. In this article, let’s see how you can work with Cinema 4D and Arnold on iRender powerful remote machine.

How to set up Cinema 4D on iRender?

iRender provides remote machines with the latest pre-installed Cinema 4D. You can always choose to create one by going to Machine GPU > Create machine > choose the server you want to use > choose Cinema 4D in the dropdown menu Software pre-installed.

After you have done creating the machine with preinstalled Cinema 4D, just Boot it up and Connect.

Right now iRender provides each user one license of Cinema 4D for free, so you can activate and use our Cinema 4D license following this instructions.

Then we move to the next step to set up Arnold on the remote machine.

How to set up Arnold on iRender?

This instructions below will show you how to set up Arnold on a Windows machine.

Arnold for Cinema 4D is C4DtoA plug-in, and it is distributed as an executable file. After you connect to iRender remote machine, you will realize that it looks like a normal computer with browser and internet and some basic software.

Because iRender doesn’t provide Arnold license, now you should go to the internet and download C4DtoA from the Autodesk Account Portal using your own Autodesk account. Please note that this instruction uses C4DtoA for Cinema 4D R25 images, but C4DtoA 4.7.9 version is the one compatible with the pre-installed Cinema 4D 2025.0.2.

After it’s done, you double click on the downloaded .exe file to start the installation. Just click through the Setup Wizard until the setup is completed.

Select the directory where your Cinema 4D is installed. C4DtoA installer will auto-detect the installation path.

Now choose the folder where C4DtoA will appear in the Start menu.

You can click Install to start the installation and click Finish to close the Setup Wizard.

Start Cinema 4D and you should see the Arnold plugin menu in the main menu bar as below:

Now you are able to render/modify/set-up your project with Arnold in Cinema 4D.
