Processor (CPU)

When choosing CPUs, two primary specifications determine their overall performance capabilities. The first is clock frequency, which influences the number of operations a single CPU core can execute per second—essentially reflecting the processing speed of each core. The second is the core count, which refers to the total number of physical cores within the processor, indicating how many tasks can be handled concurrently. The relative importance of clock speed versus core count depends on how efficiently a given software application is optimized to utilize multiple cores simultaneously. For optimal utilization of Twinmotion, it is advisable to select a processor that offers a high clock frequency complemented by a moderate number of cores. This requirement closely parallels that of Unreal Engine, which is unsurprising given that both platforms are developed by Epic Games and exhibit similar performance characteristics. Processors from AMD’s Ryzen series and Intel’s Core series are well-suited to meet these specifications. In particular, the Intel Core i9-13900K and AMD Ryzen 9 7950X are regarded as among the most effective options available, delivering the processing power necessary to ensure smooth and efficient operation of Twinmotion.

Graphics Card (GPU)

In Twinmotion, the graphics card is responsible for rendering and displaying 3D models in real-time. As project complexity increases, so too does the demand for a more powerful GPU. In general, higher-performance graphics cards contribute significantly to improved responsiveness and visual quality within the software. Additionally, the amount of dedicated graphics memory (VRAM) plays a critical role, particularly when working with intricate or large-scale models. At present, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 with 24GB of VRAM represents the highest-performing GPU for use with Twinmotion. However, the RTX 4080 (16GB) and RTX 4070 SUPER (12GB) also provide strong performance and are suitable for beginners.

Memory (RAM)

To ensure smooth performance while using Twinmotion 2025, having sufficient system memory (RAM) is essential. Adequate RAM allows the software to operate efficiently, especially when working on complex scenes or large projects. It helps the system manage multiple tasks and data processes simultaneously, reducing lag and improving overall responsiveness during design and rendering tasks. When running Twinmotion, Epic lists a minimum of 16GB for Twinmotion for optimal performance. For more demanding projects involving high-resolution textures, complex models, or large-scale environments, 32 GB or more of VRAM is ideal. A higher VRAM capacity ensures smoother real-time rendering, better visual quality, and faster performance, especially when working with photorealistic assets or exporting high-quality visuals and animations.

Storage (Drives)

For running Twinmotion 2025 efficiently, having the right storage drive is important. We strongly recommend a Solid-State Drive (SSD), as it offers significantly faster data access and loading times compared to traditional hard drives. Using an SSD helps speed up software startup, project loading, and the overall workflow, especially when dealing with large files and high-resolution assets. Ensuring sufficient free storage space also allows Twinmotion to perform smoothly and reduces delays during rendering or saving projects.

At iRender, all our servers are equipped with 2TB of NVMe storage, which offers a significant benefit for Twinmotion users. This high-speed storage allows users to run Twinmotion alongside other applications simultaneously, making it easier to multitask and handle various important tasks efficiently.

Twinmotion 2025.1 is available now

Epic Games has just released Twinmotion 2025.1, the latest Unreal Engine-based real-time visualization software iteration. This substantial update introduces a cutting-edge volumetric clouds system, support for Virtual Shadow Maps, a refined LOD system, and significant enhancements to materials, lighting, rendering, and Sequence creation. Twinmotion 2025.1 is set to revolutionize real-time visualization with realism and efficiency.

Let’s discover new features in this latest version with iRender!

What’s new in Twinmotion 2025.1

Easy realistic exterior environments

One is the new volumetric clouds system, which adds realism to your scenes. It allows for dynamic and detailed cloud formations that react to light and weather conditions. This feature enhances the overall atmosphere of your projects, making them feel more natural and alive.

Moreover, if you aim to create an otherworldly atmosphere or desire more artistic control over your scene’s ambiance, Twinmotion 2025.1 offers new options for adjusting the clarity and color of the dynamic sky through settings for turbidity and atmospheric density.

Additionally, you can customize the sun’s color or temperature (or the directional light for HDRI skies).

Finally, you can adjust both the color and height of the exponential height fog, along with its density.

New automatic LOD system

The Level of Detail (LOD) system has been refined to optimize performance without compromising visual quality. This system automatically adjusts the level of detail for objects based on their distance from the camera, ensuring smooth performance even in complex scenes. This update allows you to create highly detailed environments while maintaining optimal performance.

The new Automatic LOD Generation system automatically reduces the poly count of imported meshes according to their distance from the camera, improving rendering performance. It comes with three presets, generating between three and eight LODs.

Updates to materials, lights, rendering and Sequence editing

In addition to these major features, Twinmotion 2025.1 includes updates to materials, lighting, rendering, and sequence creation.

Twinmotion 2025.1 brings a host of lighting and rendering enhancements that elevate the software’s performance and the quality of real-time renders. Notably, the new Projector lights feature enables you to project any image or video texture onto surfaces. This is particularly useful for visualizing live events and installations or simulating effects like caustic reflections on boat hulls.

In another boost to real-time rendering quality, Epic Games implemented an optional new method for rendering shadows in real-time rendering mode based on Virtual Shadow Map (VSM) technology. VSM support improves the accuracy and quality of shadows in your scenes. This technology provides more precise shadowing, adding depth and dimension to your visualizations.

Changes to materials include a new Tire base material, which generates UVs for cylindrical objects like car tires, and new controls in the Car Paint material, including surface imperfections.

The Twinmotion Library, the asset library bundled with the software, gets new new Projector light type, for projecting videos onto geometry, and a new Confetti particle system type.

A new collection of 62 photorealistic growable tree species from different parts of the world – including North America, Japan, Oceania, tropical regions, and Europe was added to the Twinmotion Library. Each tree comes in three stages of maturity, giving a total of 186 new trees.

The Sequences system, for creating and editing cinematic video sequences, gets a new Orbit Cam rig, and the option to set a target for the Action Cam.

Changes in the user interface, workflow and pipeline

The Environment panel was redesigned to provide more logical groupings of settings, including making the distinction between dynamic sky and HDRI settings clearer. And you can now separately affect the season, precipitation, and leaf fall/color, enabling you to have fall colors with a snow shower, for example.

A new Modeling panel, accessible from the footer, has been introduced for making simple edits to imported meshes. Initially, it allows you to mirror meshes and flip normals on faces to correct artifacts.

Pipeline integration has been enhanced with the ability to import geometry in .wire format from the automotive design tool Alias, as well as import two-sided geometry.

What makes Twinmotion one of the most powerful tools on the market today

Twinmotion offers a variety of features that significantly enhance workflow efficiency for architects, designers, and other professionals involved in the visualization process. Because rendering is so efficient in communicating concepts to clients, it has become a mandatory skill for architects. This is why it is so important for you to pick the right rendering software to suit your specific needs. In this article, iRender will explore the Twinmotion software compatibility, features, pricing, and what makes Twinmotion one of the most powerful tools on the market today.

What is Twinmotion Software?

Twinmotion was first released in 2005, but many architects have not heard of this software until recently. This is because the software was acquired by Epic Games (a video game company) and has undergone vast improvements that skyrocketed the tool into the public eye, used by the likes of Zaha Hadid Architects and BIG architects at some point in their workflows with regards to design.

Like all rendering software, Twinmotion is a tool for realistically visualizing architectural concepts to convey key ideas to people who may not be able to fully understand the spatial qualities as they are depicted in plans, sections, and elevations.

The features make Twinmotion attractive

High real-time lighting

Twinmotion features high-fidelity real-time lighting that enhances the overall visualization and provides realistic scenes for architectural and design projects.

Twinmotion uses advanced global illumination techniques to simulate how light interacts with surfaces in a scene. This results in more natural lighting effects, where light bounces off surfaces and contributes to the overall illumination of the environment. The software allows users to simulate daylight accurately based on geographical location and the time of year. You can adjust the sun’s position and observe how shadows change throughout the day, providing insights into sunlight exposure and shadow casting on your design.

You can add various types of artificial lights (e.g., point lights, spotlights, and area lights) to your scene. Twinmotion offers realistic light attenuation and shadows, allowing for striking indoor and outdoor lighting setups. The software includes sky and atmosphere settings that let users tweak the appearance of the sky, including cloud cover, fog, and atmospheric haze. These effects enhance the mood and atmosphere of the scene, contributing to a more immersive experience.

The real-time rendering capability allows for instant feedback as you manipulate lighting and material properties. This interactivity is invaluable for quickly iterating on designs and visualizations.

VR in Twinmotion

Twinmotion supports virtual reality, enabling users to create immersive experiences. You can navigate your designs using popular VR headsets, providing clients with a unique perspective of the project. Virtual Reality (VR) is one of the standout features of Twinmotion, enabling users to create immersive experiences that can significantly enhance the way architectural designs are presented and experienced.

Twinmotion allows users to explore their projects in a fully immersive 3D environment using VR headsets. This capability gives clients and stakeholders a true sense of scale and spatial relationships, which can be difficult to convey through traditional 2D presentations. Twinmotion is compatible with popular VR headsets such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Valve Index. This compatibility ensures that users can leverage existing hardware to explore and present their designs.

Users can walk through their models in real time, interacting with the environment dynamically. This interactivity allows users to experience the project as if they were actually there, enhancing understanding and engagement.

High-Quality Visuals of Twinmotion

Twinmotion is renowned for its ability to produce high-quality visuals, making it a favorite among architects, designers, and planners. Twinmotion utilizes advanced real-time rendering capabilities, allowing users to see changes instantly as they adjust scenes. This means high-quality graphics can be viewed without the lengthy rendering times typically associated with traditional rendering software.

The software features advanced lighting systems, including global illumination and dynamic shadows. Users can control the intensity and direction of light sources, as well as simulate real-world daylight conditions, to create convincing and immersive environments.

Twinmotion allows users to customize materials with various properties, such as transparency, reflectivity, and texture maps. The ability to manipulate materials means that users can achieve the specific look they desire, enhancing realism.

Twinmotion Cloud

There is a useful feature in the Twinmotion software that facilitates working with clients and partners through the Twinmotion cloud. Once you have created a presentation or set of panoramas, you can then upload them to the Twinmotion cloud that will generate a shareable hyperlink and HTML that you may send to clients/colleagues that will allow them to access the files via their browser. This is a much more interactive experience than sending a set of images to be reviewed, as it allows them to pan around the views without the installation of the software itself.

System Requirements

Twinmotion is available on both macOS and Windows and is compatible with most 3D modeling software and all major BIM software on the market while offering one-click synchronization with popular BIM software like Revit and ArchiCAD, parametric modeling software like Rhino with Grasshopper, Sketchup pro, and RIKAD.

The recommended system requirements are as follows:

● Operating systems: 10 / 64 bitsProcessor Quad Core 3,0 Ghz

● Memory (RAM): 8 – 16 GB

● Graphics card: 4 GB VRAM, NVIDIA GTX 770 / ATI Radeon R9 280X, DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 compatible graphics card

● Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD, 2.5 GHz or faster

● Hard disk: 5 GB available

The system requirements are quite standard for most rendering software. However, the hard disk space required is noticeably less than other software of similar strength, like in the case of Twinmotion vs Lumion.

How to use the Spacing and Area tools in Twinmotion

Twinmotion is certainly no stranger to designers or architects in the 3D industry. Developed by Epics Game, Twinmotion is especially useful in fields such as architecture, urban planning, and interior design, providing the ability to present and visualize projects effectively and impressively. With a diverse set of tools, Twinmotion is always one of the top choices of 3D artists. In this article, let’s learn about the Spacing and Area tools in Twinmotion with iRender! These powerful features help you easily create and manage objects in the scene, helping optimize the design and visualization process in Twinmotion.

Overview of Spacing and Area Tools in Twinmotion

The Spacing and Area tools offer a speedy and effective method for dispersing and controlling a large number of assets within your scenes along paths you design or within areas you specify. You can randomly or systematically distribute various asset types across both large and small areas, while also introducing diversity by specifying the density of the paths and areas being populated, and refining the distribution of the assets.

The Spacing tool allows users to create paths that can be automatically filled with chosen assets, such as trees or streetlights, ensuring consistent spacing and alignment

The Area tool, on the other hand, enables users to define specific areas within a scene where assets can be placed with a degree of randomness or systematic arrangement, making it easy to create natural-looking environments or more structured layouts

You can use the Spacing and Area tools in several situations, for example to:

      • Add trees and street lights along city streets.
      • Populate parking lots with various types of vehicles.
      • Add rows of hanging or recessed lights along ceilings.
      • Create forests with diverse trees and vegetation within defined areas.

The Spacing and Area tools are spline-based

Using the Pen tool, you draw splines in the Viewport that represent paths or areas.

      • Paths are splines that can be open-ended or connected at their ends.
      • Areas are splines that connect at their ends to create an enclosed space.

The splines are drawn in segments and separated by spline points you define. The shape and dimension of the splines can be modified and are controlled by the spline points.

A spline is comprised of the following elements:

1- Spline point: Defines where a segment of the spline starts and ends.

2- Plus sign: Click on the Plus sign to create a new spline point.

3- Arrow: Shows where the assets will be distributed along the path or in the area. You can customize the distribution method with the Scattering properties.

Supported Asset Types in Twinmotion

You can use the Spacing and Area tools with assets you import into Twinmotion and with the Library assets in the following categories:

      • Vegetation (excluding Landscapes and Detail grasses)
      • Objects (excluding Water, Sounds, Doors)
      • Lights
      • Megascans
      • Sketchfab
      • Posed humans in Characters

Using the Spacing and Area Tools

Step 1: Open the Populate panel by clicking Populate in the Footer.

Step 2: In the Populate panel, click the Place tab, then click the Spacing or Area tab.

Step 3: Click the Pen tool icon.

Step 4: If you are using the Spacing tool, draw a path in the Viewport.

If you are using the Area tool, draw an area in the Viewport.

Step 5: Add the assets to the path or area by selecting them from the Library and dragging them to the dropbox.

The assets you add to Dropbox are automatically placed on the path or in the area. By default, they are uniformly placed.

The assets you add to the dropbox are automatically placed on the path or in the area. By default, the assets are uniformly placed.

Step 6: Keeping the path or area selected use the settings in the Properties panel to modify the spline or the assets. For more information about the properties you can modify, see Scattering Properties and Object Settings.

Is Unreal Engine or Twinmotion able to use multiple GPUs for path tracer?

Since Unreal Engine 5.1 and Twinmotion 2023.1, they support using multiple GPUs for path tracer performance. Actually it’s from way before that when you can use more than one GPU to perform some of special functions in Unreal Engine; however, it’s only widely known recently by many users. This makes us want to discuss a question which I received from many users of mine: Is Unreal Engine or Twinmotion able to use multiple GPUs for path tracer?

What is path tracer rendering?

Path tracer is progressive rendering mode in Unreal Engine and Twinmotion, which helps you generate high-quality images, using accurate lighting and Global Illumination (GI). It shares the same ray-tracing architecture and features, but different code, mitigating the drawbacks of real time feature and produce photo-realistic and production renders.

How to enable support for multiple GPUs in path tracer in Unreal Engine and Twinmotion?

To enable support for multiple GPUs in path tracer in Unreal Engine and Twinmotion, you should guarantee that you have:

        • Windows 10 version 2004 or newer
        • Identical graphics cards (2 or more) which support NVLink
        • NVLink bridge

The number of graphics cards and the series will determine the NVLink bridge. You should know that some graphics card support NVLink, some don’t. Some graphics cards series can be connected by one NVLink maximum (mostly consumer cards like RTX 2000, RTX 3000; workstation cards like RTX A5000, RTX A6000), some can work with more NVLink bridges (mostly enterprise cards).

With the majority users of Unreal Engine and Twinmotion, it’s the best to stick with consumer cards and workstation cards which allow two cards be connected by one NVLink bridge.

Please note that two different graphics cards will not help in path tracer or any rendering mode in UE or Twinmotion. And the new architecture Ada Lovelace graphics cards like RTX 4000 series or RTX 6000 Ada don’t support NVLink anymore.

Enable multiple GPUs in Unreal Engine

To enable support for multi-GPUs in UE, you should follow this instruction:

        • Connecting GPUs with NVLink bridges and enabling SLI in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
        • Pass the command line argument -MaxGPUCount=N, where N is the number of GPUs available. For example, -MaxGPUCount=2.
        • With the editor open, use the console variable r.PathTracing.MultiGPU 1 to enable multi-GPU support. You can also add this console variable to your DefaultEngine.ini file located in [Unreal Engine Root]/Engine/Config under the [/Script/Engine.RendererSettings].

Check the Output Log once the editor opens to ensure that multi-GPU mode is active. Look for LogD3D12RHI: Enabling multi-GPU with 2 nodes.

Enable multiple GPUs in Twinmotion

First, you set up the NVIDIA SLI technology for the GPUs in your computer. After that, you need to enable multi GPUs in Twinmotion as follows:

        • In the menu, go to Edit Preferences to open the Preferences
        • In the Settings tab, under Path tracer, select the Multi-GPU

Is Unreal Engine or Twinmotion able to use multiple GPUs for path tracer?

Now we come to the question stated at the beginning of the article: Is Unreal Engine or Twinmotion able to use multiple GPUs for path tracer?

Many users come to us and ask this question. It’s hard to tell that the multi-GPUs system really help to accelerate the rendering speed in UE or Twinmotion, because how the software behaves is still strange to us.

One of my UE 5.1 clients has shared his experience with RTX A6000 and our single RTX 4090 and dual RTX 3090 with NVLink. It’s a big project in path tracing, with too many 8k textures, so it needs as big VRAM as 48GB.

However, his RTX A6000 somehow could not render the project properly, as it used 50GB VRAM for the scene. It resulted to crashing. That’s why he sought help from iRender because we offer NVLink on the server dual RTX 3090s.

His first attempt with dual RTX 3090s was not successful. The project can render on one GPU well, but the second GPU, although was connected by NVLink, seemed to be idle. While the first GPU used 24GB fully, the second one just use one gig and appeared doing nothing at all. If he rendered with a less complicated scene, it did render faster.

He then tried to contact Unreal Engine technician for help, and it appeared to have been a command line he missed. After fixing it, he could fully use the second GPU. Both GPUs were utilized and used their own VRAM. However, it didn’t go smooth like expected.  He then encountered a GPU Driver crash, for which he adjusted the TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay registry keys, which hasn’t resolved the issue. The crash only happens during warmup frame rendering, and only if he used the multi-GPU support. It didn’t crash with a single GPU at all. Seem like NVLink and the software cannot work properly for many reasons.

Because using one RTX 3090 is not enough, he tried using our single RTX 4090. On a single RTX 4090, it rendered faster than A6000 and RTX 3090. And it did not crash when it runs out of dedicated memory. In the end, he used single RTX 4090 for most of his scene.

On the paper, it’s said that using multiple GPUs can improve the path tracer’s rendering performance anywhere from 50% to 200%. It doesn’t happen like that on our client’s case. For a small scene, it is faster, but do you need NVLink for a small scene? No.

For a big scene where it exceeds the dedicated VRAM of one GPU, the software starts to act weird. While UE crashes on my client’s local 48GB VRAM of A6000, it actually can run on 30GB of dual RTX3090s’ shared VRAM via NVLink. However, it’s not stable. It will keep crashing, either the software or the driver. It happens if his scene uses more than 24GB of one GPU. It seems like NVLink in this case doesn’t help double the available VRAM, but it makes both GPUs render the same scene by themselves. That seems too much for the engine to handle properly, maybe it wasn’t optimized.

I wonder if it’s the reason why Nvidia is not doing NVLink anymore with their new generation of graphics cards like RTX 4090 or 6000 Ada. To conclude, I still don’t think multi-GPUs with NVLink or SLI will help 100% in the case of path tracer. If your scene can be optimized and used within 24GB VRAM of RTX 4090, it’s the best. If you want to use dual RTX 3090s with NVLink, we still offer it, but do not expect much from it.

Wrapped up

Right now, it’s still far from the context that real-time rendering software like UE, Twinmotion or any application like Lumion, D5 Render, Enscape can utilize multiple GPUs. Some features of them can do that, but it’s very limited and show many instability. To ensure you have a smooth and as few problems as possible, please consider using one GPU and optimize your scene.

Overview of Lumen Global Illumination in Twinmotion

After Path tracer, now Twinmotion is getting better with the release of Lumen. It’s a real-time global illumination and reflections system which help you simulate how light and reflections interact and transfer between object with great accuracy. This article will try to give you an overview of Lumen Global Illumination in Twinmotion, introduce some features, and instruc you on how to enable it.

Lumen system requirements

Lumen is based on ray tracing. It’s a rendering technique helps you produce realistic lighting, reflections and shadow effects.

You can use Lumen in both Windows and macOS, but it will have a little difference. Windows will support hardware-based ray tracing, which can use larger range of geometry types, materials, and workflows, while macOS will support software-based ray tracing with limited types of the features.

The system requirements for using Lumen on Windows and macOS are as follows:

Windows

        • Operating system: Windows 11 64-bit version, or Windows 10 64-bit version 1909 revision .1350 or higher, or versions 2004 and 20H2 revision .789 or higher.
        • Render Hardware Interface (RHI): DirectX 12.
        • Graphics card: NVIDIA RTX-2000 series or higher, or AMD RX-6000 series or higher.

MacOS

        • Operating system: MacOS 12.x Monterey.
        • Graphics Processing Unit: Requires a discrete GPU, as opposed to an integrated CPU/GPU.

Some Lumen features

Lumen brings powerful and dynamic global illumination features with real-time performance to Twinmotion.

Lumen Diffuse Indirect Lighting

This feature diffuse indirect lighting will continuously bounce light from this surface to another surface until light loses all energy. Although this will cause many bounces, making the scene become high computational cost, it’s still worth it for a realistic rendering.

The feature also helps you deal with light color and shadow. If the initial light source is colored, the bounced light reflects this color onto other surfaces. If the surfaces have a diffuse color, the bounced light also reflects this color onto other surfaces. If the object blocks this diffuse indirect lighting, it will produce diffuse indirect shadows.

Check the scene below to see how Lumen Global Illumination diffuse indirect lighting works:

Lumen and Ambient Lighting

Lumen now will increase the natural effect by improving the quality of ambient lighting and reflections. It also provides global illumination to enhance translucency and height fog effects.

Lumen and Emissive Materials

Emissive materials mean that when lights hit it, the lights can bounce to other objects nearby and light the scene. You can create an objects and apply emissive materials on it, making it the light source. However, be careful when you use it on a small object because it can cause noise artifact. Make sure you use it on a large and big object for light to bounce correctly, or use light sources from Twinmotion Library.

Lumen Reflections

The image below helps you understand how Lumen reflections work on the surrounding surfaces. It will provide and handle dynamic diffuse, specular reflections, skylight shadows, glossy reflections on rough materials (roughness values from 0% to 100%), or translucency surfaces.

Supported Light Types

Lumen global illumination support all light sources and light types, from High Dynamic Range Images (HDRIs), the Twinmotion Dynamic Sky, to the lights in the Twinmotion Library.

How to enable Lumen in Twinmotion?

Before you enable Lumen in Twinmotion, use the following settings in the Preferences panel:

        • Go to Settings > select DirectX 12 in the Graphic hardware support (Windows only).
        • Go to Quality > select the High or Ultra quality setting.

By default, Twinmotion uses Standard global illumination. You can switch to Lumen global illumination by following the steps below:

        • In the Footer, click Propertiesto open the Properties
        • UnderAmbience, click the Render tab, then click the Real time
        • UnderGlobal illumination, click the Lumen

Now you can freely tweak your scene and benefit from Lumen like you want.

A thing about Lumen is that it does affects the frame rates, but not so much and still not slow down the speed of your computer. For example an indoor scene with standard global illumination may have about 90FPS, while with Lumen and reflections it decreases to 60FPS. It’s still a high FPS and guarantee you have the best results with the best lighting.

Can you use Lumen for Twinmotion at iRender?

iRender is proud to introduce a new server 3S – single RTX4090, the most powerful cloud rendering server for Twinmotion. Here you can work freely with any new technology of your software like Lumen or path tracer.

Let’s see why iRender is your choice for Twinmotion rendering

Powerful hardware

As recommended in the article, the graphics card should be Nvidia RTX2000 or newer.

Our GPU is RTX4090, the latest one which is just released at the end of 2022. Nvidia has a trend of making new graphics card about 2x faster than the previous series. In the most ideal situation, RTX4090 could be 2x faster than RTX3090, and could be 4x faster than RTX2080. You can check more about the benchmark of video cards here, with RTX4090 being the king with highest score.

About other system requirements, like CPU, RAM or hard drive, our server 3S still can meet the demands, with AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX, 256GB RAM and 2TB NVMe SSD storage.

Free and convenient transferring tool

iRender offers a powerful and free file transfer tool: iRender drive for macOs and Linux user. With fast file transfer speed, large data capacity, and completely free. You can transfer all the necessary data into our iRender drive tool at any time without connecting to the server. The data will be automatically synchronized in the Z drive inside the server, ready for you to use.

For Windows users, we recommend using our all-in-one application iRender GPU to work, and you don’t need to come to our website but still can transfer your data, recharge your account and access the machine through the app.

Flexible price

The price of server 3S is $8.2 per hour. However, the server is available for fixed rental when you boot (price at $23.124 for 3 hours rental, about 6% off compared to hourly basis). And you can even catch more attractive option for your big project when you rent it for daily/weekly/monthly basis, with discount from 10-20%.

Real human 24/7 support service

Don’t hesitate to contact our human support via livechat on the website when you encounter any issues. We are available 24/7, helping you to handle the problem quickly, effectively, saving you both time and money.

Unique render farm supports Single card

When you use iRender render farm, you can free your computer during the hardest and most arduous part – rendering. That is also the reason that Render Farm service is becoming more and more popular and essential. However, as far as we know, iRender is proud to be one of the very few render farms that support single card for Twinmotion. You will connect to our remote machine, install your software needed, add your license then render or modify your project as you want.

With the above advantages and the machine configuration package that iRender has just released, we believe that Twinmotion users will have the most comfortable, quickest, and most effective rendering time.

How to render Path Tracer in Twinmotion on an Apple computer?

Twinmotion is a powerful real-time visualization tool that allows designers to create high-quality renders and interactive experiences for architectural design, product design, and more. One of its most current powerful rendering features is the Path Tracer, which generates photorealistic images through accurate lighting calculations. However, many Apple users wonder how they can take advantage of Path Tracer in Twinmotion since it currently only supports Windows computers. This article will discuss the capabilities of Path Tracer in Twinmotion, and its requirements, and provide solutions for Apple users to leverage path tracer renders from Twinmotion.

Path Tracer in Twinmotion

The Path Tracer in Twinmotion is a progressive, hardware-accelerated rendering mode. It is an unbiased, physically-based rendering technique that goes beyond the limitations of typical real-time rendering. It uses the hardware acceleration capabilities of modern graphics cards to simulate lighting in a scene through a physically accurate process called path tracing.

Path tracing calculates how light propagates throughout an entire 3D environment, including effects like reflections, refractions, and indirect lighting. This provides a more realistic depiction of global illumination compared to approximations used in real-time.

Path Tracer in Twinmotion help generates high-quality photorealistic images with accurate lighting and Global Illumination (GI). Twinmotion is continuously improving its Path Tracer capabilities with each new release. The Path Tracer was first introduced in Twinmotion 2022.1. It allows users to generate final-pixel imagery comparable to offline renderings with just a single click to toggle between it and real-time rendering. The current Twinmotion 2023.1 release builds on this foundation with several enhancements to the Path Tracer. It now supports decals, including hundreds of high-quality Quixel Megascans. Volumetric fog effects are also supported. In addition, sky rendering has been improved. Transparent objects now render accurately even with the depth of field effects.

Why Path Tracer in Twinmotion Doesn't Work on Apple

Currently, the Path Tracer is not supported on macOS

The main reason Path Tracing is currently unavailable on Apple computers is that Twinmotion is based on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine up until this point has not implemented support for path tracing on macOS or other Apple platforms. As soon as this feature does become available in Unreal Engine, Twinmotion developers will work to integrate it.

For now, macOS users might see error messages like “PathTracer is not supported on your platform.” or “PathTracing is not supported.

Let’s explore Path Tracer Hardware Requirements to better understand why it doesn’t work on a macOS computer.

Path Tracer Hardware Requirements

To use the Path Tracer in Twinmotion, certain hardware and software requirements must be met.

Operating System:

Currently, the Path tracer is supported on Windows computers only.

Graphics Card Requirements:

To use Path Tracer, your computer must have one of the following:

      • An NVIDIA GPU: RTX 2000 series or higher
      • An AMD GPU: RX 6000 series or higher

In addition, your graphics card must meet some requirements as follow:

      • Have at least 8GB of dedicated Video-Access Random Memory (VRAM).
      • Support DirectX12 (DXR).
      • Have all the latest drivers installed.

DirectX12 Support

Twinmotion aims to take the best advantage of your GPU’s capabilities by default. If your GPU meets or exceeds the minimum requirements above, it will use DirectX12 by default. However, for GPUs below the requirements, Twinmotion reverts to the more broadly compatible DirectX11 instead. You can manually change this setting in the Preferences panel. Yet, doing that is not recommended because it risks instability in Twinmotion.

To verify if your GPU supports DirectX12, follow the following steps:

      • On the Windows taskbar, click the Search icon
      • In the search bar, type dxdiag
      • In the search results, choose “dxdiag Run command”

Once launched, the DirectX Diagnostic Tool will analyze your system configuration. To find the DirectX version supported by your graphics card, go to the System tab. There you will see a System Information box displaying details about your hardware. The DirectX Version line item within this box will specify whether your GPU supports DirectX12 or an earlier version.

To verify whether your Twinmotion is using DirectX12, follow these steps:

      • In the menu, go to Edit > Preferences > open the Preferences panel.
      • In the Settings tab under Graphic hardware support, the DirectX12 checkbox is selected by default if your GPU supports DirectX12.

How to render Path Tracer in Twinmotion on an Apple computer?

The main options available for Apple users to access Twinmotion’s Path Tracer are:

      • Bootcamp: Use Bootcamp, Windows can be installed natively on an Apple computer. You also need an eGPU supporting DXR since the AMD-based GPUs in Apple computers are not DXR compliant.
      • Remote Rendering: Create your project on an Apple computer, then transfer the project files to a strong Windows computer with a DXR GPU for remote Path Tracer rendering.

Let’s learn more about iRender’s remote rendering services for Twinmotion.

iRender - The best render farm for Twinmotion rendering

iRender, an IaaS render farm, provides remote machine rental services, specifically, high-configuration dedicated servers (RTX 3090 and RTX 4090 computers). • Hard Drive: 30 GB of free disk space

3. PC Recommendations for Twinmotion 2023

3.1. CPU (Processor)

For Twinmotion, you need a high-clock speed CPU with a moderate core count. A strong processor is necessary to keep up with the demands of Twinmotion. The top-end processors in AMD’s Ryzen and Intel’s Core lineup meet these requirements well, and Intel’s Core i9 13900K and AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro are among the best options. Twinmotion also has the same characteristics and features as the Unreal Engine, both created by Epic Games.

3.2. Graphics Card (GPU)

In general, Twinmotion will work better if your video card is powerful. VRAM (the graphics card’s memory) is crucial for displaying complicated models, among other things. For Twinmotion, the GeForce RTX 4090 24GB is currently the fastest GPU. However, if you have a tight budget or you have a small project, the RTX 4080 with 16GB or the 4070 Ti with 12GB are also great choices.

3.3. Memory (RAM)

Epic lists a minimum of 16GB for Twinmotion, but we recommend 64GB for running smoothly and faster, which matches Epic’s “high-end requirements”. However, if you are working with smaller projects or have a tight budget, we think 32GB is enough. Besides, if you want to use many other software at the same time with Twinmotion, a PC with large memory will meet all requirements.

3.4. Storage (Drives)

We highly recommend solid-state drives (SSDs) for the main drive that will host your OS and the installation of Twinmotion itself and any other apps you want to use. SSDs are much faster than any normal hard drive at enabling your system to boot, run apps, and load files. To ensure you won’t need to upgrade your main drive, we strongly recommend using OS Drive with a capacity of 1 TB. Especially, at iRender, all the servers are equipped with storage Nvme is 2TB. This is a great advantage for Twinmotion users. You can run multiple applications at the same time with Twinmotion to do other important tasks.

Overall

As almost all users know virtual machines have not supported Twinmotion. At iRender, we have based-mental servers with strong CPUs and many GPUs to accelerate rendering projects. We provide powerful machines that have processing capabilities of AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX @ 3.90GHz and AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ PRO 5975WX @ 3.6 – 4.5GHz. For Twinmotion, it just uses 1 GPU so I suggest you choose our server single card 4090 – our server 3S has a powerful CPU, and storage is 2 TB which is extremely suitable for complex processes in Twinmotion. You can check our configuration here:

How an IaaS farm is a choice for your VR content?

VR has grown so fast in terms of content and creativity. It’s a challenge for 3D artists, because it will require 360-degree environments and high-resolution 8k images. This leads to high-end hardware to be able to meet the demands of VR content.

In this article, let’s see if one normal render farm can help you with VR rendering and how an IaaS farm is a better choice for your VR content?

What is VR?

When you search for the definition of VR on the internet, it has many. Sometimes it could be so complicated that you cannot understand.

VR technology involves a computer-generated environment with objects and elements that appear to be real and make the user experience the same feeling as immersed in the environment.

Let’s break them down in a more understandable way.

VR is the real world fades away and you’re immersed in a new, virtual world with all the objects look exactly like in your real world.

VR is great in many ways, especially because it enables you to meet and experience other things from a far, and still feel like you are physically present in that place. When everything is slowly moving towards the virtual world, VR will become a new normal.

So is a normal render farm able to work with VR content?

The answer is yes. VR contents can consist of many heavy and complex effects that cannot be rendered by one’s computer. However, people still want to combine them into the VR scenes as pre-rendered elements. And that’s when a render farm could help.

A normal render farm is a large number of computers which are networked together to form a power to render faster. When you have many special effects needed to be processed and rendered fast, the render farm, using the power of many computers, will be able to render for you.

After that, you could use the pre-rendered images and videos to integrate to your VR scenes.

However, sometimes VR contents cannot be rendered by a normal render farm. Therefore, we need to find an alternative.

How an IaaS farm is a choice for your VR content?

IaaS is different from a normal render farm, as it can enable you more control in terms of rendering or processing your VR contents.

One of the most used cases for 360-degree environment VR content I have encountered is architectural walkthrough. Lumion, Twinmotion, Enscape, Unreal Engine, etc. many real-time render software have an option for 360 panorama virtual tour or static images.

When you use those real-time render software above, they often just optimize one graphics card. Running them on multiple graphics cards won’t help to speed up the render time. While normal render farms are networks of many computers (many GPUs and CPUs), supporting render software like that is really hard because they cannot optimize all the hardware infrastructure.

In this case, an IaaS render farm is a better choice. IaaS farm will allow you to rent a server (could be single or multiple GPUs), from there you can install any real-time render software you like and use it to render/process your VR contents.

This is not only an excellent choice for a pipeline with real-time rendering software, but also for any customized pipeline where you are very strict about how your rendering is going. With IaaS render farm, you have a complete control over your VR project, which leads to many benefits:

        • You are able to install your software, your plug-ins, add-ons that couldn’t be supported by a normal render farm.
        • You are able to check for the missing files or wrong-rendered images/videos immediately that couldn’t be checked by a normal render farm.
        • You are able to control and modify your VR project halfway if you or your clients want a change. Even if you want to run code or script, it’s possible. This is beyond a normal render farm.
        • The results received are uniform, because the hardware used in IaaS farms are explicit and the same.
        • Rendering is faster with no queue. If you have one license of your software, you can rent one server. If you have multiple licenses, you can rent many servers, each server added one license, and you can divide your VR project into many parts to render on many servers at the same time.

If you are having a VR project, an IaaS farm is the best choice for you.

Twinmotion cloud rendering with powerful single RTX4090

This article is to help you find a Twinmotion cloud rendering with powerful single RTX4090

Twinmotion is a real-time immersive 3D architectural visualisation tool to produce high quality CGI, animations, and standard or 360° VR videos without the usual long render times.

We all know that real-time rendering software will only use one GPU to render. Before, it’s RTX3090 to be one of the best consumer cards for Twinmotion. Right now, with the release of RTX4090, let’s see how it help you in term of Twinmotion’s high-end rendering.

iRender test comparison of RTX4090 and RTX3090 with Twinmotion

In this test, iRender used demo scene Lakehouse retreat from Twinmotion 2022.2.3.

Specification used in this test:

        • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 409024 GB and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24 GB
        • CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX

RTX4090 and RTX3090 will perform on the same scene of Twinmotion, resolution full HD, with path tracer and at 30 FPS.

We can see that RTX4090 only took 32 min 50 secs to render the whole scene, RTX3090 took 58 min 54 secs. It all depends on your settings, your scene complexity, that the speed could be different. However, it’s safe to say that RTX4090 nearly doubles RTX3090 in terms of speed.

With the new architecture and upgrade in technology, RTX4090 is superior in every aspect, especially CUDA cores, RT cores and Tensor cores are about 1.5 times higher than RTX 3090. This will help a lot in rendering time.

Twinmotion cloud rendering with powerful single RTX4090

iRender is proud to introduce a new server 3S – single RTX4090, the most powerful cloud rendering server for Twinmotion.

Let’s see why iRender is your choice for Twinmotion rendering

Powerful hardware

As recommended by the software manufacturer, Twinmotion will need a processor Quad-core Intel or AMD, 2.5 GHz or faster, recommended CPU with benchmark score higher than 2500 (here).

Our CPU is AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX, with clock speed is 3.9GHz and can reach 4.3GHz with Turbo Boost. Its score is 2684, higher than 2500 the recommended score for CPU, your project surely can load much faster.

The factor decides if rendering in Twinmotion is smooth or not, fast or slow is the GPU. The high-end requirements for path-tracer is a graphics card with 8 GB VRAM or more, should be RTX2000 series or newer.

About other system requirements, like RAM or hard drive, our server 3S still can meet the demands, with 256GB RAM and 2TB NVMe SSD storage.

Free and convenient transferring tool

iRender offers a powerful and free file transfer tool: iRender drive. With fast file transfer speed, large data capacity, and completely free. You can transfer all the necessary data into our iRender drive tool at any time without connecting to the server. The data will be automatically synchronized in the Z drive inside the server, ready for you to use.

Render farm supports Single card

When you use iRender render farm, you can free your computer during the hardest and most arduous part – rendering. That is also the reason that Render Farm service is becoming more and more popular and essential. However, as far as we know, iRender is proud to be one of the very few render farms that support single card for Twinmotion.

With the above advantages and the machine configuration package that iRender has just released, we believe that Twinmotion users will have the most comfortable, quickest, and most effective rendering time.
